I mean think about it. Do YOU want to put up with depressed, lazy, or useless people? I know I wouldn’t if I wasn’t one of them. These people, including myself, can provide no viable productive or sufficient contribution to society given the insurmountable personality defects of which they are afflicted. Time and money are limited resources for individuals which can only be replenished if these resources continue to increase. People who are not hiring material cannot obtain money, and people without money cannot obtain the specific education (or even licensing) required to develop functional skills. How can we expect members of a society to achieve the independence we expect of them when their backgrounds inherently require dependence upon some vestige of society, be it family or state? We should legalize consensual euthanasia for unproductive members of society (such as myself) so that they (we) will not be a burden upon the more productive Type-A personalities among our society. It would be a fine alternative to messy ad-hoc suicide attempts such as drug overdose or “suicide-by-cop” scenarios, which can be traumatic for innocent bystanders involved. Why induce brutal imagery of one’s self-demise upon others merely because individuals lack the capability and resources of instigating their own ending? Medical euthanasia would provide a sanctionable, dignified death for people who have come to terms with their own limitations.
Granted, this would be difficult to achieve, as we live in a highly solipsist society. People prefer to blindly attempt to milk as much utility out of others without regard to the intrinsic emotional nature of the human animal. It would be far more logical to allow a person to eliminate him or herself with the knowledge they cannot provide a useful contribution to society rather than keep them suspended in Sisyphean existential misery, constantly failing to even begin contributing. The last time I checked, people felt very strongly against the unemployed whose search for work was utterly and desolately futile, particularly in a dwindling economy that cannot sustain a rapidly growing population.
It’s not as if the person withing to be euthanized is merely “quitting” life. They are making a valuable personal sacrifice, forfeiting the good experiences in the world in the light of the fact that they cannot manage to earn said enjoyment. They are having to say goodbye to family members whom they are simultaneously a burden upon either for their misfortune in finding an employer willing to hire them or the very fact that they have merely slipped through the cracks to seemingly succeed in life up until the point where they must inevitably begin making a life of their own. The question of euthanasia is also an ethical one, as some people are simply not willing to subject themselves to an amoral private sector of illicit substance trafficking, prostitution, or governmentally-ordained international violence, all of which are not economically viable in the long run anyway.
We should allow the freedom of choice for people who are fully aware that they cannot provide the rest of society with any helpful contribution, rather than let them merely exist and run up costs which further place their families in debts. In the long run, these people may only end up as homeless wandering the streets. Why should a person who would choose to be euthanized be subjected to hindering the positive image of the country by taking up vital space and consuming resources to be kept alive? It would only reflect poorly to allow such people to starve, rather than granting them a quick and painless death by their own volition, which could prove beneficial in its own respect, perhaps through organ donation or the like. If anything, we have looked the other way for too long, assuming that people’s disabling personal issues, whether physical, mental, or emotional, would simply work themselves out on their own. We should know better than to think that any problem will simply “go away” by itself. It’s time we allowed a respectable and ethical treatment for people willing to ascribe to a system of consensual euthanasia.
